Danny Mullen put the home side ahead in the first-half, before goals from Garry Fleming and Mitch Megginson won the points in the second half. There were two changes to the Dumbarton line-up as Ian Murray looked to mix things up following last week’s disappointing display in Dumfries. Colin Nish and Steven McDougall came in at the expense of Mark McLaughlin and Archie Campbell. Murray also altered the teams formation, with the shape changing to a 3-5-1-1, rather than a 5-3-2. Livingston started the game brighter, and it was a sign of how the half would go on. Myles Hippolyte had the first sight of goal after five minutes, but his low curling shot was easily saved by Ewings. Hippolyte then had a free header in the penalty area — but couldn’t direct it goalwards. Mullen then had a shot from range drive over the bar. And, with Sons not yet created a chance, had a shot or won a corner, Livingston went ahead on 28 minutes. Dumbarton gave away position in the middle of the pitch, and Hippolyte came forward with the ball. It looked like Andy Graham would do enough to put the Livi man off, however an untimely slip from the captain gave Hippolyte even more space. He passed to Mullen who danced between Lee Mair and Scott Taggart before firing past Jamie Ewings and into the bottom corner. It could have been worse before the break, as Gary Glen met a cross and his header hit the underside of the bar, bounced off the line and was finally scrambled clear by Dumbarton.

It was a poor first half from Dumbarton, with no attacking threat going forward. Gaffer Murray changed his tactics at the interval, with Sons slotting into a basic 4-4-2. There was an immediate change to the performance, and Colin Nish nearly got a goal but seen his shot blocked by Darren Jamieson. The visitors could have been 2-0 down, as Keaghan Jacobs ran through the defence before lofting the ball over Ewings and into the net. However, the offside flag was up, much to the anger and disbelief of Livingston, and the relief of Dumbarton. Scott Agnew whipped a free-kick in from the right, all it needed was a touch but Nish and Graham couldn’t quite connect. Ewings was again called into action to make a close range save from Kyle Jacobs, and the Sons stopper got down very well to push the header away from danger. Mullen had another opportunity for the hosts but bundled the ball wide from close range. Then, on 62 minutes, Dumbarton equalised. An Agnew corner from the left wasn’t dealt with by the home side, and Garry Fleming pounced to blast the ball into the roof of the net. And just eight minutes later, the away side were in front for the first time.. Mark Gilhaney got past his man on the right hand side and sent the ball across goal. Mitch Megginson got on the end of it, and took a touch before firing across the keeper and into the bottom corner. It was Megginson’s first league goal of the season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The final 20 minutes of the game were nervy, but Livingston failed to threaten the Sons goal and Dumbarton held out for a crucial away win.
