10 players axed by Sons
DUMBARTON boss Jim Chapman started to reshape his squad for next season's Second Division campaign with 10 players shown the exit on Friday.
The players told they have no future at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium include Czech goalkeeper Jan Vojacek, who came to the Sons on a short-term contract at the beginning of the season.
But after producing some stand-out performances for the Sons, he extended his stay until the end of the season.
Veteran midfielder Stevie Murray, who has played a significant role in the side's sixth-place finish in the Second Division as well as their third division title win last year, also left the club.
Ross O'Donoghue, Denis McLaughlin, midfielder Richard McKillen and back-up keeper David 'The Monk' McEwan will also depart Dumbarton, however Chapman has offered him the use of training facilities over the summer to get his fitness up to scratch.
Skipper Michael Dunlop, who took over the armband in the Summer after the devastating loss of the inspirational Gordon Lennon, will also leave the club after two successful years at Dumbarton.
Ross Harvey, Ross Clark and Roddy Hunter were the other unlucky players to be released.
Chapman admitted it wasn't an easy task telling the 10 players they would play no part in his future plans at Dumbarton.
He said: "It's never a pleasant task releasing players and I would like to thank them for all their efforts in helping Dumbarton FC progress."
However, 13 players have been offered new contracts to stay at the club next season.
Scott Chaplain, who finished Dumbarton's top scorer with 10 goals, will have the chance to stay at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium next term.
While fellow striker Dennis Wyness, who was Chapman's blue-chip signing in February, has also been offered a new deal.
Kieran Brannan, Derek Carcary, Iain Chisholm, Andy Geggan, Ben Gordon, Martin McNiff, Ryan McStay, Chris Smith, Tony Wallace, Michael White and David Winters have also been offered new contracts.
