DUMBARTON face a First Division double header as they were handed two tricky cup draws last week.

Morton come calling to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on July 24 after they were drawn out of the hat in the first round of the Alba Challenge Cup on Thursday.

And on Friday, the Sons found out they would be taking on another First Division side as they were paired with Queen of the South in the Co-op Insurance Cup.

Jim Chapman's men travel to Palmerston on Saturday July 31 to face Kenny Brannigan's side in the first round tie.

The Challenge Cup match will see the Sons take on the Cappielow side for the second time in a row in the competition.

Dumbarton also clashed with the Ton in the Scottish Cup when they drew 0-0 before being knocked out in the replay in Greenock last season.

And the tie will also see Allan Moore, who was confirmed as new Morton boss last week, make a return to Dumbarton.

Moore started off his playing career at the Sons in 1983 before leaving in 1986.

Chapman will be hoping for better luck this time out in the Challenge Cup, as his side were narrowly defeated 1-0 last season by the Cappielow side.

The Sons gaffer believes the two cup ties will be a huge test for his new-look Dumbarton team.

He said: "It is two First Division outfits and they will both be difficult games.

"The Morton game is great for fans because there's a bit of rivalry there but it will be a difficult tie.

"Morton will be a different team under Allan Moore.

"They narrowly beat us twice last season but maybe on the law of averages we can beat them this time."

Meanwhile, Dumbarton have confirmed they will play Oxford United in a pre-season clash at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on July 17. The friendly should prove to be a strong test for Chapman's men as the Us defeated York City in the Blue Square Play-Off final to claim promotion to the English Football League at Wembley.
