BACK by popular demand, the Sport Relief Mile will return to Dumbarton Golf Club next month.

Following on from the success of the club’s 2012 event, they have decided to bring the fun-run back and hope to raise more money than ever before.

Taking place on Sunday, March 23, runners will be joined by ex-Scotland, Celtic and Dumbarton star Murdo MacLeod who has confirmed he will be on hand to encourage participants running the course.

Stephen Thomson, event coordinator, said: “Dumbarton Golf Club last ran the event in 2012 and it proved to be a big success.

“More than 200 people took part and we managed to raise £5,000 for the Sport Relief charity.

“Obviously with the Commonwealth Games overtaking Scotland this year we thought it was the perfect opportunity to bring the Sport Relief Mile back.

“However, we are aiming to raise even more money this time round. The target has been set at £6,000 and we are confident that we can reach our goal.” The golf club will also be laying on a range of events for people going along to the event. ClubGolf will be making a return, where training sessions will be available to kids wishing to take up the sport. Entertainment for all ages will also be running throughout the day.

Despite only recently being announced, Stephen has been encouraged with the interest already shown.

He added: “We have only just unveiled the event in the past fortnight and we have already seen a large amount of good feedback from the surrounding community.

“There is a cap of 250 runners and places are filling up quickly.

“Hopefully we can bring the magic back from the 2012 event and enjoy a similar success.” You can sign-up for the event by visiting Dumbarton Golf Club’s website, clicking the Sport Relief banner and following the instructions on the Sport Relief website.
