Training has been provided by local sports development officers and has gone down a hit with the active kids, who teachers say, can’t wait for this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
Primary six pupils have been given the opportunity to pick up new sports not normally taught at the school.
Coaches have taught them the skills of various athletic events, including the high jump and long jump, before they compete in heats for the West Dunbartonshire Championships.
Successful pupils will then progress on to the finals if they qualify.
Head teacher, Mr Kennedy, said: “It has been a very good experience for the children.
“The activities they are competing in focus on their health and well being, which is a huge positive for everyone.
“The feedback from the children has also been fantastic.
“They are thoroughly enjoying not only the fitness aspect but also the competetive nature of the event.”
