Played at a roasting hot Glasgow International Hockey Centre, the Scotland team were in control throughout the match and more than deserved the three points.
The hosts won a number of penalty corners and it was Ailsa Wyllie who made the most of Scotland's domination to smash home the game's opening goal to give the home side a 1-0 half time lead.
Wyllie doubled Scotland's lead in the second half to secure the three points and speaking after the match a delighted Gibson said: "It was the perfect start - a clean sheet and I only had one save to make.
"We defended really well, we won a lot of corners and we were attacking a lot so it is all very positive."
Head coach Gordon Shepherd was pleased with the team's performance and although Gisbson did not have much to do he is confident the team can rely on her later in the tournament, he commented: "We said this was the most important game of the whole tournament and to get the three points, score two goals and have a solid defensive performance was really pleasing.
"Hopefully she doesn't have much to do in the other games either but she is a world class goalkeeper and if she is called upon to make saves she will make them."
