Three second half goals were enough give Raith Rovers all three points at Stark’s Park on Saturday as the Sons made a disappointing start to their Scottish Championship season despite having the better of the possession (53 per cent). It could have all been different had Scott Agnew’s free kick gone the other side of the crossbar at 0-0 but Ian Murray will be looking for a much improved performance when Queen of the South visit the Bet Butler Stadium next weekend.

Rangers remained 4/9 favourites at BetVictor for the title ahead of their own Championship opener against Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday with Dumbarton 250/1 behind Hearts 10/3 and Hibs 5/1, however, those odds are likely to change if Rangers continue to struggle and Hearts continue to impress.

Two first half goals were enough to give the Doonhamers three points against Alloa but manager Jim McIntyre admitted they were fortunate to keep a clean sheet as the Wasps had a number of half chances and let’s hope they’re not as fortunate next weekend.

Dumbarton look overpriced at 12/5 at BetVictor to make a winning start in front of the Sons’ fans with Queens 21/20 and the draw at 12/5. A 2-1 win for Ian Murray’s side is 11/1 and that looks a shade too big also.

We have a market on the next Championship manager to lose/leave their post and Ian Murray is the 16/1 outsider of the 10-runner field with Raith’s Grant Murray the 2/1 favourite despite their winning start to the campaign. Ally McCoist, perhaps surprisingly, is next at 3s, John McGlynn 6s and 12/1 bar.

Alloa have been cut from 9/4 to 2/1 to finish bottom of the table with Cowdenbeath and Livingston 3s, Sons 4s and 16s bar.

For the more optimistic Dumbarton supporter, the club are 12/1 to finish in the top four at the end of the campaign with Saturday’s opponents 6/4. Falkirk are odds on 4/6 to make the top four with Rangers and the two Edinburgh sides long odds on.

One of the most popular markets we have is the season-long handicap with Rangers on scratch and the rest of the Championship having a points’ handicap.

The Sons are 12/1 receiving a 28-point start whilst the Doonhamers have been backed into 5/1 receiving a 16-point start over the Gers. It is a fascinating market and one we will be updating throughout the season at BetVictor.
