Campbell had knocked out fellow countryman Scott Donaldson in the first round six frames to four including breaks of 62 and 61.

World number 16 Milkins proved a tougher test however. Milkins continued his impressive recent form, recording breaks of 56, 78 and 64 to progress to the last 32.

It was Campbell’s first tournament since the International Championship at the end of September, as he took time away from tournament play to practice and spend some time with his family.

He made the adjustment after a disappointing 2013 — which had followed on from the best period of his career in 2012.

Campbell has stated that the significant amount of travelling involved in competing all year round — as he did in 2012 — may have affected his performance the following year.

The increasing number of tournaments played all over the world in modern day snooker means most players on the circuit have to be selective over which tournaments they compete in.

World number 48 Campbell must now decide whether taking on more tournaments in 2015 can improve his performances.
