Chloe is a member of West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swim Club, the same club that Commonwealth heroes Ross Murdoch and Rory Lamont attended.

Under the tutelage of Jimmy Orr — Murdoch and Lamont’s former coach — Chloe continues to flourish and her Grand Prix bronze in the 100m backstroke will not dampen her lofty ambitions. Glasgow 2014 probably came just too soon for the 17-year-old but the Rio Olympics in 2016 and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 are well within her sights.

She said: “It was really good to get a medal. My coach said he wanted to see me up on a podium for one of the events so it was great to do it.

“For Glasgow my coach didn’t really expect me to make it, I was probably too young but my times are getting better so hopefully they keep improving for the Rio trials which start next year.

“Right now I am just focusing on getting to either Rio or Gold Coast and doing really well if I do get there, that is my main aim.” Chloe is one of many promising swimmers currently at the club and she thinks it is a great place for young swimmers to develop.

She said: “There are a lot of good swimmers at our club. It is a good place to be. It’s great to work with Jimmy he’s a great coach, he explains everything really well. He has everything planned out for us, setting out where everyone should be looking to get to in the long term.” Chloe competes at 200m, 100m and 50m backstroke — 200m she considers her strongest distance. Despite the demands of her training, whilst studying beauty therapy at Clydebank College, she insists she wouldn’t have it any other way.

She said: “It can be hard but I wouldn’t change it. If I had to choose one or the other I would choose swimming but I don’t think I’ll have to.”
