Bowls Scotland has named Anderson as part of a four strong team which will compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games venue at Broadbeach Bowling Club.

It is a quick return to the venue for Anderson who competed in the 2014 edition of the event in November and claimed two bronze medals.

Having already experienced the challenging conditions at November’s event, Anderson will feel better prepared for this year’s event.

He said: “It was brilliant over there. When I got to the semi-finals I wanted to win it but it was a great experience.

“It was unbelievable the game is so different over there. The greens are so quick which brings the wind into play a lot more and that can cause havoc but the standard was still great.” His bronze medals in Australia capped an incredible year for Anderson, having become one of the youngest ever players to win the Scottish singles title.

That win qualifies Anderson for the Champion of Champions tournament — also in Australia in 2015 — meaning Anderson will have competed at the Commonwealth 2018 venue at least three times before team selection commences, something which will not harm his chances of being picked for the Scottish side.

He said: “For the Commonwealth Games they name an elite squad and have different trial events, so hopefully I can make it into the team there is a long way to go though.

“2014 has went really well I think I have improved. I definitely wasn’t expecting to win the Scottish so its been a great year.”
