The Scottish Amateur Football Association hand-picked a 23 man squad after an extensive selection process.

The Balloch side’s star forward will line up with the national squad when they take on East Kilbride FC on Monday, January 28 at the Dalziel Park playing fields in Motherwell, kick-off 8pm.

Having already been called up to previous squads the call wasn’t a huge surprise to MacPherson but he was delighted none the less.

He told SportScene: “It’s great to get named in the squad again, I’m really looking forward to it. I went to the UEFA Regions Cup with the squad back in June which was in Slovenia.

“We came top of the group in that and it was good to play over there.

“I had kind of expected to get named again. I was picked to go away with them in September but due to work I couldn’t make it.” It is more recognition for MacPherson who has played at junior level with Clydebank and the forward insists he has ambitions to play at a higher level once again.

He said: “I was training with Queen’s Park at the start of the season, nothing came of it but hopefully through the national select I can push my career a bit higher.

“I played with Clydebank a few seasons ago for a season which I really enjoyed. I’ve come back and been playing amateur and really enjoying it.

“The manager at Haldane has really helped me get into the Scotland squad and I’d like to thank everyone at the club for helping me get the call up.”
