Both teams had to battled both the elements in what was a difficuly day for rugby. Despite early control, Lomond failed to execute a number of try scoring opportunities, perhaps suffering from the unavailability of Scott McGinty, George Gilmour and Alex McAdam.

Millbrae plundered a try just before half-time and coach Dennison tore into his troops at the break. This spurred the Lomond team on and Ryan Campbell slotted a tricky penalty to reduce the deficit to 5-3. Millbrae’s experienced pack managed to manoeuvre a score off the back of an attacking scrum and the score was converted giving Millbrae a 12-3 lead.

As ever, Lomond battled back with the forwards refusing to take a backward step and Craig Norrie scored another vital try to ensure a losing bonus point. The veteran hooker, playing at loose head prop, called a move off a line out on the Millbrae line, received the ball and ghosted between the Millbrae defence to score in the corner.

Lomond face four tough final fixtures with three away games before Arran visit the Dillychip on May 2. With Lomond stuck four points from safety every point will count in the coming weeks.
