THE summer holidays may be over but it’s still all smiles at Kirktonhill Tennis Club as the Autumn programme gets under way.

Saturday morning coaching continues through until mid-October and there are still spaces for anyone aged 5-14 interested in taking part.

There are four groups: the mini-reds (aged approx 5-9 years) have sessions at 9.30am and 10.30am whilst older children meet at 11.30am and 12.30pm. The club is also gearing up for its Family Fun Day on September 5. This will include the under-10s championship as well as games, a BBQ and fund-raising activities. The West of Scotland Senior League matches have just got underway and the Kirktonhill Ladies got off to a flying start with a convincing 6-0 win over Bearsden 2.

Playing at first couple were Karen Haggarty and Trish Cameron whose solid and consistent play proved to be too strong for their opponents, winning their sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Karen Goodwin and Fiona MacDonald on court two also settled quickly and came out comfortable winners: 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Whilst the senior gents matches have yet to start their campaign, all focus is on the squad who won their division in the summer league. On September 4, the gents team, captained by Douglas Mackechnie, travel to Ardgowan to compete in the play-off finals.

Given the quality in their team, hopes are high that they will do enough to bring back the trophy.
