THE wait is almost over for Lomond Badminton Club’s players as the 2015/16 season gets set to get under way.

The first club session is being held on Tuesday, September 1 at the Vale of Leven Academy. The junior section is delivered from 6-8pm, with the adult section (16 years +) from 8-10pm in the games hall at the school.

Lomond’s junior section is very popular and existing members are given priority to enrol for the new season with the remaining spaces being filled on a first come, first served basis.

In addition to Lomond Badminton Club, WD Leisure’s Sports Development team deliver badminton coaching for beginners on Friday evenings in Alexandria Community Centre from 6-7pm (8-11 year olds) and Tuesdays in Dumbarton Academy from 5-6pm (5-7 year olds), 6-7pm (8-11 year olds) and 7-8pm (12 – 16 year olds).

These sessions provide an excellent platform for young players to enjoy the sport and learn key skills prior to coming into the club environment. For more information on these sessions you can email sportsdevelopment@west-dunbarton.gov.uk or call 01389 753557.

The adult section of Lomond Badminton Club had its most successful season last year. Alan Crawford, who leads the coaching at the club, said: “Badminton is an excellent sport for all ages and ability levels. Lomond Badminton Club was established in 2009 to get more people playing the sport locally. In terms of coaching, the focus has always been on the junior section with the aim of developing the sport from the grassroots level.

“The adult section has always been more about social badminton with mainly games being played throughout the evening. This year we are looking to introduce some coaching into the adult section for those that would like to refine their technique.

“The adult section also provides an excellent pathway for the older children to progress from the junior section as they develop as players. The club is hoping to grow and develop further this year and as a result we are interested in hearing from anyone that is interested in coaching badminton.” For more information about Lomond Badminton Club and any coaching opportunities that may be available you can email lomondbc@outlook.com or call Alan on 01389 756384.
