Loch Lomond Rugby Club hosted this year’s West Dunbartonshire Schools Rugby Finals organised by West Dunbartonshire Leisure’s Active Schools team.

The competition, won by Gavinburn Primary School of Clydebank, consisted of five schools that had qualified for the finals after competing in local area qualifiers.

Prior to the competition, rugby taster sessions were delivered by coaches from Loch Lomond Rugby Club and Clydebank Rugby Club with a series of fun sessions carried out in every primary school in West Dunbartonshire.

This ensured that all schools were prepared for the competition while encouraging pupils to join their local clubs.

Gavinburn narrowly pipped fellow Bankies, St Stephens’s Primary School to the title by one point after they finished the round-robin event undefeated with three wins and a draw.

In a fiercely competitive competition, there was also impressive rugby on show from St Michael’s, Renton and Braehead resulting in every school finishing the day with points on the board.

Craig Thompson, Active Schools co-ordinator, said: “The standard of play and enthusiasm on show today was really encouraging.

“I’d like to thank Clydebank and Loch Lomond Rugby Clubs for their help with the programme and hope to continue working with both clubs in the future.” If you’re interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities with Active Schools you can email innes.paterson@west-dunbarton.gov.uk.
