DUMBARTON’S players dug deep to compensate supporters’ travel after the recent 6-0 defeat at Queen of the South.

The squad went into their own pockets to contribute to the Sons Supporters Trust’s travel scheme after their dismal showing at Palmerston Park last month.

Skipper Darren Barr presented a sum of money to Trust Travel convener Tommy Hughes and Trust member Denise Currie before Saturday’s game with Raith Rovers.

Barr said: “What happened at Palmerston was extremely disappointing and the players felt it was only right that the fans should receive some sort of compensation.

“They have been great all season and hopefully our donation can help them to keep coming to away games for the foreseeable future.”

Meanwhile the Sonstrust end of season bash will now be at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium on Sunday, following Sons trip to Alloa Athletic.

After the SPFL moved the final-day fixtures to the Sunday, the original plan to host it on the Saturday had to be shelved.

Prize donations will be welcome. Shots at the tombola will also be welcome on the day, costing £1.

Sons are now inviting supporters to renew their season tickets for the 16/17 campaign.

The club have kept prices the same as the current season but extended the normal discount period (early bird) from 2 weeks to 4 weeks with the first week a premium period with further discounts.

There is also an under-16 ticket introduced at just £90.

This week will see the first incentive rolled out, if supporters renew on Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday they will get a reduced rate.
