DUMBARTON have made former Scotland u21 international David Smith their fifth summer signing.

The 23-year-old joins from Falkirk, where he made 53 appearances over two seasons for the Bairns.

The winger scored four times for the Bairns, including a goal against Dumbarton in a 3-3 draw back in Jan 2015.

Smith, a product of the Hearts academy, had been in their youth set-up since he was aged 10. and had several successful loan spells at Raith Rovers.

Smith made his first team debut as a substitute against Dundee United aged 18, and went on loan to Raith Rovers several times to gain further first team experience. He also represented Scotland at u16, u17, u19 and u21 levels, scoring against Belgium u19s in the u19 European Championships.

He joins fellow signings Craig Pettigrew, Andy Stirling, Ryan Stevenson and Robert Thomson at the Rock, and will be hoping to make an instant impact.

Speaking on the club's website, Sons manager Stevie Aitken said: "I'm happy to have David complete his deal.

"There was significant interest in his services from elsewhere but he's now part of our squad for the new season."
