Christian Nade spoke positively about his former club Dumbarton after his new side Stranraer struck late on against the Sons to win 1-0 at Stair Park in the Irn-Bru Challenge Cup last Saturday.

The Frenchman netted seven times in 12 appearances for Stevie Aitken’s side last season, scoring in the club’s 3-2 victory over Hibs and scoring his first career hat-trick against Alloa in March.

And the 31-year-old came off the bench and provided the assist for Mark McGuigan, who tapped in from close range after 83 minutes.

He said: “I’ve got nothing against Dumbarton. I like the players and I like the staff. I’ve moved on and I have to give everything I’ve got for my new club.

“Winning against your old club is a good thing to do and I think we needed this win with the confidence of the win last week, winning against a Championship team is very good.

“It was good to get two clean sheets as we conceded too many goals in the first few games, so that’s a good thing. We win games and we don’t think we play as well as I think we can do so.”

The striker has had a mixed start to his career with the Blues, only coming back from injury in the game on Saturday.

And the frontman revealed he wasn’t fully fit — and expected to be on the sidelines for longer.

He said: “It’s difficult. I picked up an injury two weeks ago and I was meant to be out for four to six weeks so I don’t think it’s healed properly yet but I’m trying to get there. The staff are doing a good job, the coach knows how to rest me so hopefully I’ll get there.”

And the ex-Hearts striker was glad to see McGuigan score, but was not 100 per cent sure he would.

He added: “I’ve seen people missing from there.

“It was good, he was in the right place at the right time so it’s good for him and good for the team.”
