DUMBARTON striker Garry Fleming is glad to put his recent spell of injuries behind him as he looks to get back to full fitness in time for their game against Ayr United in under two weeks’ time.

The 29-year-old has had several knocks this season after initially damaging his hamstring against Peterhead back in July.

And the Sons player is hoping to be fully fit, ready for their key clash against United on Saturday, October 15.

“I’ve had a couple of knocks, I damaged my hamstring and I rolled my ankle,” he said after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Queen of the South.

“With this free week coming up I’ll get a bit of rest in and I’ll be back to full fitness.

“It’s frustrating after going through pre-season. Then it happens in the last cup game and you miss league games.”

The striker returned to the starting line-up against Raith last week and got a brief run-out against the Dumfries side.

And Fleming thought his team fully merited the point they earned, producing a good result after the setback in Kirkcaldy.

He added: “We were on top of them for long periods of the game and obviously we’ve had a few chances. We hit the post in the first half and had a couple of penalty shouts, but we’re just not getting that break that we need in front of goal at the moment.

“But we’ll take that. Queen of the South are sitting top of the league, we obviously knew it was going to be a tough game, but the boys battled well and held out for the point.

“The game against Raith Rovers was obviously a big disappointment. We’ve spoken about that and every time we’ve had a bad result we’ve bounced back well. We knew we could, especially with the home fans support and getting fully behind us. The boys did well.”
