Dumbarton have been drawn against League Two side Elgin City in the Scottish Cup last week.

Sons will face City next month at the Rock on Saturday, November 18, and it’s the first encounter between the sides in eight years.

The last time the two teams played each other was back when Dumbarton were in the old Third Division, where Jim Chapman lead his Sons side to Promotion.

Their penultimate game was against Elgin, which all but sealed their rise to Scotland’s third tier at the time with a thumping 6-0 win.

Four goals from Derek Carcary and strikes from Denis McLaughlin and Stevie Murray made it a comfortable afternoon back in May 2009.

Last season the Black and Whites finished in fifth place, after a strong start to their campaign they missed out on the play-offs on the last day of the season.

The Borough Briggs side sit in fifth place in the League Two, and progressed through to the third round after a 3-1 win over Lowland League side Edusport Academy.

There will also be one familiar face for Sons fans from their opponents.

Striker Jordan Allan, who scored in a trial match for Dumbarton against Partick Thistle in the summer, now plays for Elgin.

Dumbarton have also been drawn in the quarter-final of the Irn Bru Cup at home to League One side Raith Rovers.

The tie will be played the week before on November 11.
