JIM Chapman's first summer recruit has admitted he is in the "firing line" after signing for his hometown club.
Versatile defender Paul Nugent knows that his pals will already be sharpening the knives to give him stick if he turns in a sloppy performance for the Sons.
But the former Our Lady and St Patrick's pupil, who works for club sponsors Chivas, hopes there will not be too many poor showings when he pulls on the Sons jersey and wants to help build on the club's recent success.
The 27-year-old, who grew up in Bonhill, told Sport Scene: "Dumbarton are one of the best part-time teams in Scotland and you always want to play at the best level you can, so it was an easy decision to come here.
"I've played in the First, Second and Third divisions for the last ten years, so I'm looking to bring some experience to the squad, which will help the young boys, and also perhaps bring a bit of quality.
"I know I'm putting myself in the firing line a bit, because I will get stick from my pals if I play badly, but hopefully there won't be too many poor games."
Nugent, who played for Second Division rivals East Fife last season, has been a long-term target for Sons boss Chapman, who this week admitted he was delighted to finally get his man.
He said: "The key thing for me was that Paul is someone I have targeted for a long time and it's great to finally have him on board.
"He's a local lad as well, which is good, and he has also been impressed with the club's ambitions for him to come here."
