DUMBARTON'S latest recruit Jordan Halsman is hoping to start hitting the back of the net to help propel the Sons up the Second Division table.

The versatile left-sided player, who is on loan from SPL side Motherwell, is delighted to be getting the chance to ply his trade at Strathclyde Homes Stadium until the end of the season.

And the 19-year-old wants to prove to manager Alan Adamason that he has what it takes to become a top team regular after getting his first start in the win over Airdrie United on Tuesday night.

He told Sport Scene: "I'm delighted to be on loan at Dumbarton until the end of the season which will give me the chance to get more games under my belt.

"If I had stayed at Motherwell then I would probably just be sitting in the stands so I'm looking forward to getting more involved here.

"When I came on for my debut against Brechin it was great to get forty minutes, but I didn't really know any of of the players' names and that was a bit difficult.

"But I managed to settle down and thought I put in a fairly decent performance.

"Then I got a start against Airdrie and I was happy to get a chance to play at left midfield and left back because hopefully the manager can see what I'm all about and that I can play in either position.

"I like playing in both positions because I enjoy going forward from defence and also have a good engine for going up and down the line.

"Hopefully the Dumbarton fans will see a lot of hard work from me and I scored five goals for Annan, where I spent the first part of the season, so hopefully I can chip in with a few goals for Dumbarton as well."

Although Halsman, who is in his third season with Motherwell, is determined to be a hit at Dumbarton, he has also admitted that he wants to use it as a springboard to playing in the SPL.

He added: "Hopefully having been at Annan for the first part of the season and now getting a chance at Dumbarton, I want to play well enough that I can push myself in pre-season and get into the Motherwell first squad for the start of next season."
