BENEFIT: East End Park pitches will be upgraded to 3G surfaces

DUMBARTON Football Club has revealed plans for a new 'centre of excellence' for young players.

And they have urged local businesses to support the club to achieve their goal for the community.

The Sons last week outlined plans to invest in a new upgrade of East End Park which would see the facility change to a 3G surface.

To make this possible the club set up the Dumbarton Community Foundation (DCF) which has been granted charitable status.

The upgrade would be a huge boost for youth football in the community and the club is hoping local firms will back the plans financially.

A club statement said: "DFC were granted £150,000 towards the scheme via the government's Cash from Proceeds of Crime fund after our application was chosen by the SFA as being a suitable proposal for funding.

"West Dunbartonshire Council will provide a long term lease on the premises to DCF, although at this time further grant funding is required to make the project viable.

"When completed the facility will provide a top class football facility for use by the community at large at an economic cost and will be the centre of excellence for DCF community and elite coaching as well as being the base for DCF to deliver its objectives.

"To achieve this we seek and need the support of the town and surrounding areas, thus we would ask if individuals and businesses small and large can look to making some contribution of any size via initiatives."

The club are also seeking further sponsorship of their stadium after Strathclyde Homes Limited was placed into receivership.

Dumbarton board are also hoping to gain support from businesses for match ball sponsorship,

The club is also planning to launch a new independent society to run the Sons Platinum Club lottery after the club ended its partnership with Sons Weekly Lotto.

The Sons Platinum Club will be used to give out 50 per cent of the income as prize money with the remainder being donated to fund the club's youth and community development.
