Rock win is crucial
THE Sons squad is "buzzing" ahead of Wednesday's crucial promotion play-off match against Arbroath at the Rock.
And club captain Paul Nugent is determined to ensure his side are well on track to qualifying after the first leg, because suspension will rule the defender out of the return match at Gayfield Park.
He told Sport Scene: "Everyone is buzzing about the play-off games and hopefully we can try to kill the tie off on Wednesday night.
"We do not really have any injury concerns in the squad, which is great at this time in the season, and now we need to take the form from our recent games into this important matches."
A pivotal part of Dumbarton's success this season has been full-back James Creaney, whose fine displays were recognised on Saturday night when he was crowned Young Player of the Year.
The 23-year-old said: "To win the young player of the year award is fantastic for me and I was absolutely delighted to get it.
"I think I've had a pretty good season, but the whole squad has done well and getting to the play-offs is massive. So hopefully we can now do the business and get to the first division.
"Saturday's result, when about seven first team players were rested, just shows how strong a squad we have because it was a strong Brechin side we beat.
"We have won three games in a row going into the play-off games which undoubtedly gives us confidence.
"This season our games against Arbroath have been close games, but we need to be confident going into the matches.
"The home game on Wednesday is massive for us and hopefully we can get a goal or two of an advantage to take to Arbroath, because it's not an easy place to go."
Also picking up honours at the club's awards night at the Abbotsford Hotel were midfielder Scott Agnew (player of the year) and striker Bryan Prunty (top goalscorer, goal of the season and Sons View player of the year).
