ST Mirren manager Ian Murray admitted he could have no complaints over the result in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to his old club Dumbarton.

Sons took the lead from a deflected free kick from Willie Gibson, Scott Agnew equalised with a spectacular strike. However Sons clinched all three points when a Garry Fleming penalty in the 82nd minute sealed victory.

Murray, taking on his former employers for the for the first time since his move to the full time side in the summer, conceded his team were not at the races in the first half and were duly punished.

He said: “It is hugely disappointed, we conceded a soft goal in terms of the deflection from the free kick, there wasn’t a lot we could do about it. The lead up to the free kick is not great, we score a cracking goal to get back in it then shoot ourselves in the foot with the penalty.

“But we have no real complaints because we started so sloppily. We never came out the traps the way we wanted. Second half was much better but as I explained to the guys, you don’t get that chance in the Championship, you don’t get the time and respect that you think you are going to get.

“We take nothing away from Dumbarton, they played it exactly how they played it against Hibs. They got their goals, got their breaks, defended excellently and were organised. They showed no fear.”
