VALE of Leven manager Hugh Hamill believes his squad is just a couple of players short of being in a serious position to challenge to win the second division and he insists the club are working to bring in those players. Speaking after the club's first pre-season friendly, a 4-4 draw with Drumchapel Amateurs on Saturday, Hamill said: "The game was disappointing but we were missing a few players and played an experimental team, giving a few of the under-21s a chance.

"I think we are only two players short of a very strong squad and we are working hard to get the right people in.

"It can be frustrating trying to get people in but we have a few balls up in the air and we will see what happens over this week."

One player who Hamill has been able to bring in is striker Scott Arthur from Dalry Thistle.

Arthur, who can play in a number of positions across the frontline went straight into the Vale team for the friendly with Drumchapel Amateurs and Hamill said: "Scott showed up well and he can be a threat for us this season."
