Vale of Leven continued their unbeaten run with a high scoring League Cup win over league rivals Blantyre Victoria at Millburn Park.

Manager Hugh Hamill handed a debut to new signing James Crowhurst and his team got off to a great start, going ahead after just two minutes through Scott Arthur.

The Vale doubled their lead thanks to the ever reliable Alan Brown who netted from the penalty spot after striker David McNaught was fouled in the box in the 20th minute.

Just five minutes later Blantyre Victoria pulled a goal back through Stephen McDonald but the Vale were playing well and looked likely to extend their lead.

Shortly before the half time break Vale’s front two of McNaught and Arthur combined with Arthur on the end of it to slot home Vale’s third goal to ensure the hosts led 3-1 at the break.

Blantyre, who sit second in the league just a point behind the Vale, started the second half brightly and pulled a goal back after 50 minutes through David Green.

But just 10 minutes later, the Vale re-established their two goal lead as Adam Monaghan laid the ball onto McNaught for his second goal of the match.

The goals continued to flow, and just two minutes later, Terry Hewitt pulled a third goal back for the visitors, however, Scott Arthur rounded off the scoring and secured the Vale’s passage into the third round of the Central League Cup with his second in the 89th minute.
