Vale of Leven 1 Johnstone Burgh 2

ONCE more Vale fans left Millburn shaking their heads at how the home side lost to the team at the foot of the table.

The defeat saw them replace Burgh at the bottom and they are now facing certain relegation to the Second Division.

As has been the story of Vale"s season, they dominated proceedings for most of the first half and despite taking the lead, they lost two soft goals.

The home side took the lead after 40 minutes when Mark Pawsey headed Gordon Martin"s free kick back across goal and captain Allan Lees headed home from close range.

Barely 60 seconds later, Burgh drew level when Vale lost possession in the middle of the park and Craig Barr broke to equalise.

Five minutes into the second half, Vale committed suicide when Ryan Russell misplaced a pass back allowing Burgh"s Kevin Adam to take the ball around Matt Carr before squaring to Barr for his second goal of the game.

Only a great save from Carr denied Ross Harvey a certain third goal as Vale appeared to have lost their way.

Vale"s second half showing must go down as one of the poorest on record with the home side never looking like recovering from the loss of the two goals either side of the break.

Vale: Carr, Buchanan, K Wilson, Cavana, Russell (Lacy 60), Gourlay, Filshie (Grant 70), Lees, Martin, Pawsey, McNaught (D Wilson 45). Unused Subs: McKenzie and Ward.

This week, Vale have no fixture due to the Scotish Cup semi-final between Clydebank and Pollok at Millburn.

Vale"s U21s won 2-1 against Avoca at the Argyle Park with goals from Martin Coia and Gary McDevitt. This week, they are away to Thorniewood.

Vale held their inaugural Sportsmans Diner at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday with more than 240 guests in attendance.

The club would like to thank main sponsor Keith Gibson of KG Bathrooms and Kitchens for his donations as well as other contributors: Grant Vehicle Repairers, Drampac, Morrison & Ritchie, The Wayfairers in Croftamie, Cameron House, Tommy Murray of the Glencairn Lounge, John Boal, Graeme McKenzie, Robert Sloan Catering and Dumbarton Football Club.

The evening was hosted by former referee Brian McGinley with speakers Alan Rough and Joe Camay and proved to be a big success.

Many former players were in attendance including legends such as Drew Busby, Columb McKinley, Neil McCallion, Kenny McInnes and Jimmy McGrorry from the 1970 Evening Times Championship side as well as Jim Liddell, John Filshie, Pat McCafferty, John Griffen, Paul McGrogan, Tom Murray, Joe Rowan, Andy Oliver, Michael Dickie, Tom Duffy, Billy Beckett, Alex Grace, John Boyd and Mark McGrogan.
