FOOTBALL teams from across Scotland have sent touching tributes to the Vale Juniors following the death of one of their young players.

The body of under-21 star Dean Geary, 19, was found lying at the side of a secluded country road near Drymen last week.

His manager, Peter McLean, said the club had been left devastated by the news of his death and revealed that a flood of tributes has been received from Junior and amateur sides - and also players from across the west of Scotland.

He said: "We have been devastated by what has happened and it's a difficult time for the whole club.

"All the boys are struggling because we are a close-knit club.

"It is a very sad loss, but obviously it's the family we feel for the most."

He added: "We have had sympathy cards and phone calls every day from other clubs.

"Dumbarton Accies and Dumbarton Harp have sent cards and old players have phoned us as well to say they were sorry about the death. Dean was a popular player and well known in football."

Geary joined the Vale of Leven from youth team Dumbarton Harp last season, following in the footsteps of his older brother Lee.
