Huge win for Vale in relegation fight
VALE of Leven took a massive step towards league safety on Saturday with a "pivotal" victory at Millburn Park.
Hugh Hamill's side picked up all three points with a narrow 1-0 victory over Dunipace, thanks to a back post header from defender Brian Wardle just 20 minutes into the match.
And manager Hamill now hopes that his troops can continue with winning ways when they take on Kilsyth Rangers in the Central League Cup this weekend.
He told Sport Scene: "We played well in what was a hard fought game and I think that we deserved our win because we created the best chances.
"It's a very important three points for us and I knew before the match that it was a pretty pivotal game for us because the win has now given us a great chance of staying up.
"There was a decent crowd there on Saturday, with Dumbarton being away from home and it being a good afternoon, so that always gives the players a wee lift.
"Although we scored fairly early on I didn't feel that we were troubled too much at the back after that, apart from one good save from Smith, and at the other end we always looked like we could get another goal."
