A RISING Dumbarton superstar is hoping to take the world by storm after securing a coveted slot on India's biggest dance music station.

DJ Stephen Kirkwood recently had his monthly podcast Culture snapped up by Asian station Tenzi FM.

He is now trying to ensure his popular show gets broadcast to music lovers from all corners of the globe.

The 23-year-old, from Dumbarton East, is no stranger to success and was last year voted as one of Scotland's top 20 DJs.

He has also played with dance music giants like Tiesto, Sander Van Doorn and Eddie Halliwell and has had his own songs featured on some of the biggest dance music radio shows in existence.

On Wednesday, the talented musician told the Reporter that the thought entertaining people thousands of miles away was hard to top. He said: "I put the podcast on iTunes and Soundcloud which is worldwide and they had a listen to it and got in touch. The guy who has Euphoric magazine, India's biggest magazine, monitors all the big releases that come out. The guys from that magazine featured my track Forever After and from there asked me to put my show on the radio as well.

"When you think of the size of India it's huge to have my show playing there. It was an instant yes, of course when they asked. The more people that hear the stuff the better. It's good to know that people are tuning in to something I'm making in my bedroom. It's weird to think that when I hit play on the decks in my bedroom within a day it's up online and people are listening to it.

"I record it and send it to them a day early and then they can record it on their end and put it out the same day it comes out here. The aim is to get it bigger and get another couple of stations to play it and keep pushing, that's the ultimate goal."

Last month we told how Stephen had launched a new event in Dumbarton's Cheers nightclub called Octave. Following the event's success there are now plans to bring it back in December. He is also planning to stage a fancy dress Halloween party night in Balloch's Desire nightclub on October 26, with rising dance superstar Ben Nicky already signed up to play.

Stephen said: "He's really picking up now, he's one of the main players in the trance scene, it's a great chance to see him before he gets really big."

Earlier this year Stephen's remix of the classic U2 track Beautiful Day picked up plaudits from some of the biggest names in the industry and stacks of support from some of his idols. He is now working on another song which he hopes will be released soon and is hoping for similar success.

He added: "I've just finished another one that I'm hoping to hear back this week about it, and that should hopefully be another release. I'm enjoying it so that's the main thing."
