Euro Garages — which owns, operates, and manages forecourts nationally — has opened its first Scottish development in Dumbarton.

Lomondgate Service Station is a £2million investment and has created 53 new jobs for the area. The site features an ESSO petrol station with a SPAR convenience store, a Subway, Greggs, and Starbucks On The Go concessions.

Ilyas Munshi, commercial director, said: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to West Dunbartonshire Council and SPAR (C J Lang and Son Ltd) for proactively embracing and supporting the inward investment on the A82. We will look continue to work with local partners to service residents, business commuters as well as the many tourists who frequent the area.” The 24hr site was officially opened on Friday May 1, by company directors.

Founded in 2001 by sibling entrepreneurs Zuber and Mohsin Issa, the Euro Garages forecourts feature SPAR-branded convenience stores and global food and drink outlets including Subway, Starbucks, Burger King, and Greggs.

A major distinction of the business is that it owns, operates and manages the sites and the various retail outlets. The business operates an extensive network of forecourts across the North West England and employs more than 6,500 staff nationally.

Lomondgate in Dumbarton is the company’s first move into Scotland. As well as creating jobs, the global brands delivered by Euro Garages help to raise the commercial profile of the area. There is hope the new service station will attract retail outlets and housing developments in the future.

MSP Jackie Baillie added: "“This is a sign that the prominent location on the gateway to Loch Lomond is a real attraction for businesses looking to invest in our local economy. Since the closure of the J&B bottling plant in 2000, a number of firms, including industry-leaders like the BBC and Aggreko, have created hundreds of jobs in Dumbarton and the new housing developments on the site have provided more high-quality homes for local families."” Councillor Jonathan McColl, said: "“The A82 is the gateway to the National Park, the North West of Scotland and the Isles.

“"We are keen to see the Lomondgate site develop and take advantage of our geographical location to create more local jobs."”
