DUMBARTON and the Vale's representative at Westminster has paid tribute to Jo Cox, the Labour party MP who was gunned down on Thursday in Yorkshire.
The 41-year-old MP for the Batley and Spen constituency was shot and stabbed in an horrific attack outside a library in Birstall, in her West Yorkshire constituency.
A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death.
Martin Docherty-Hughes MP for West Dunbartonshire said: “I was shocked to hear of the death of my colleague Jo Cox MP. On the occasions we met she was always said hello and asked how I was, I found Jo to be a thoroughly decent person and she was very passionate about representing her constituents, in the community where she grew up.
“Jo was killed coming from her surgery in Birstall Library and the most fitting tribute I can think of is to continue working as normal. I will continue to hold my surgeries at our local Libraries across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven and visit constituents and I will carry out my duties in Westminster on behalf of the communities of West Dunbartonshire. My thoughts and those of the whole parliament are with her family and her team at this terrible time.”
