A PUBLIC meeting regarding the proposed service cuts at the Vale of Leven Hospital will be held on Monday, November 28.

The health board is considering plans to close the birthing unit at the Vale and public input will be taken on board at the meeting at the Concord Community Centre on St Mary's Way, Dumbarton at 7pm.

The meeting will be chaired by seasoned health campaigner Rev Ian Miller and Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie will join the chairman of Hospitalwatch, Jim Moohan, and West Dunbartonshire Council’s SNP Leader of the Opposition, Cllr Jonathan McColl, on the panel. A representative from the health board has also been invited to attend.

Ms Baillie is encouraging as many people to go along as possible: “The public meeting on Monday, November 28 could be our last chance to stand together as a community to oppose the cuts at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

"If the health board is allowed to continue with its plans to close the birthing unit then where will it stop.

“The meeting is open to everyone who cares about protecting the Vale of Leven Hospital and I have invited representatives from all political parties to attend. We know what the health board will do if it is left to its own devices so we must persuade the Health Secretary to step in and make the final decision on cuts at the Vale.”
