A HALDANE soldier is to embark on a water marathon to raise cash for the Balloch CHAS hospice.
Corporal Jack Black has served with the local regiment the 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders for 22 years.
During his time in the army he has climbed some of the highest mountains and kayaked down some of the most dangerous rivers in the world.
But the challenge he and three other local soldiers will be carrying out this week has a special significance to them as it will be raising funds for the new CHAS in Balloch.
And his plan to kayak a gruelling 26 miles from Ardlui to Balloch will be no mean feat as he aims to complete the journey in just two days.
Another local soldier will be providing a support unit for Corp. Black.
Corp. Black said: “We are hoping to raise a couple of thousand pounds for the charity between us and we are also going to have a flag raising ceremony at the Luss Highland Games.”
