A BRUCEHILL man who kicked out at a police car after a threatening tirade in Dumbarton town centre has been warned he could be jailed if he doesn’t comply with a court order.

Connor Buist missed an appointment with a social worker earlier this month after admitting shouting, swearing and uttering threats on June 11.

Buist, 22, of Caledonia Terrace, appeared in the dock at the town’s sheriff court on Friday alongside a second accused, 26-year-old Declan Sharkey.

But the pair’s solicitors told Sheriff William Gallacher that social work reports on both accused were not available.

And while the sheriff accepted the lack of a report on Sharkey was not the fault of the Bontine Avenue man, he was less impressed with Buist’s behaviour.

Solicitor Scott Adair, defending Buist, said his client had viewed a recently-secured job as more important than a social work appointment.

Sharkey admitted assaulting an unknown man in the Riverside Lane incident by punching him on the head, and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats.

Buist admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and also one count of wilfully or recklessly destroying or damaging property.

Separately, Buist is also awaiting sentence for assaulting a man in another Riverside Lane incident – this time on May 14 – alongside a second accused, 18-year-old Victoria Street resident Andrew Banks.

Sheriff Gallacher made Buist the subject of a bail order at Friday’s hearing, and told him: “You had better turn up for the report on this occasion.

“If you do not, one thing will be certain – you will not have your liberty.”

Sentence on the pair was deferred until December 15.
