Hundreds flocked to the Helensburgh Summer Festival to enjoy a fun-filled day out last weekend before the weather got the better of the two-day event.

While Sunday was unfortunately a wash out at Colquhoun Square, a full programme of market craft and clothing stalls, side-shows, street food and family entertainment ensured a great time was had by all at the family-friendly event on Saturday.

Kids made the most of the chance to have their face painted or have a go on the bouncy castle and bouncy slide, as well as the ever popular Victorian chair o’plane ride.

While, food-lovers and those with a bit of a sweet tooth took the opportunity to indulge in some of the delicious treats on offer, including homemade tablet, fudge and brownies.

Peninsula trikes were also on hand to provide residents with thrilling trips around the town for those keen to have a go on one of their impressive motorcycles.

Fiona Howard, who is on the board of Helensburgh and Lomond Chamber of Commerce who organised the festival, admitted the event was a “a game of two halves”, but was glad so many had the chance to have a great time on Saturday.

She said: “Torrential rain and high winds deterred visitors and saw traders giving up and going home before the morning was over (on Sunday). A great shame for everyone and a massive disappointment.

"But the brilliant sunshine on Saturday brought hundreds of families to the square and proved to be a hugely successful day for visitors and traders alike."
