A nine-year-old Alexandria boy who has a rare life-threatening condition is making a good recovery so far after undergoing three operations at Glasgow Children’s Hospital last week.

Him mum Elizabeth Hunter, 38, appealed to followers of their charity’s facebook page ‘Rohhad Association’ to pray for him as he prepared for the major surgery, including the removal of an organ, to take place on Wednesday, January 16.

The ROHHAD Association was established by Aaron’s parents Elizabeth and Ian Hunter from Alexandria in May 2015 to raise awareness of the condition and fund research into finding new treatments.

ROHHAD is an acronym for rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysregulation, hypoventilation and autonomic dysregulation.

The syndrome causes the areas of the brain that control all Aaron’s organs and hormonal and endocrine system to malfunction.

Aaron, the only child in West Dunbartonshire with the condition, started to feel unwell when he was about two and a half and he was diagnosed when he was five years old.

These recent operations were previously postponed due to health reasons and then they were cancelled due to lack of beds in the Intensive Treatment Unit.

Elizabeth, who also has a daughter, 14-year-old Lauren, said on the Rohhad Association facebook page: “Please keep our little hero AaaronMan in your prayers just now.

“Sharing this post with you all to give a little insight into what our ROHHAD children have to go through.

“Whilst they are the fiercest of warriors and so brave, it is only natural that sometimes it is overwhelming for them.

“Daily they fight for life and sometimes those days are big battles.”

Last Thursday she posted an update on the charity’s facebook page: “Our hero Aaron is now being settled into Intensive Care after a long day in theatre.

“His operations went as well as they could, and his surgeon is happy with how it went.

“We are so grateful to the team of wonderful NHS staff who have been caring for our son and helping him to have a better quality of life.

“Thanks for your love and thoughts and prayers at this time, he now needs to recover.”

Mrs Hunter asked for people to continue to pray for him as so many things could still go wrong and to support the charity to help Aaron and other children like him.

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr supported the charity last year by taking part in their Muddy Puddle Challenge while he was in London on the set of the Iron Man film.

Aaron had asked his hero Iron Man to help find a cure for the condition in a video appeal which went viral - and he was thrilled when the actor took up the challenge and even more delighted when he got the chance to meet him.
