Children at St Patrick’s Primary School in Dumbarton are on the ball thanks to weekly after school football sessions with P7 teacher Mr Currie.

Mr Currie set up the training sessions on Thursday evenings for P7 pupils several years ago and they have proved to be very popular.

The sessions are now supported by West Dunbartonshire Council’s Active Schools Programme who supply equipment, volunteer coaches and organise football tournaments at different schools, including a monthly competition at Knoxland Primary School in Dumbarton.

Mr Martin Currie said: “I love sport myself and I wanted to share that with the children.

“This is a chance for them to get fit and active, make new friends and most importantly have fun.

“We are very lucky to be able to use the all-weather pitch at Dumbarton Academy which means that we can play out in all weather.

“The boys love it and they are quite dedicated, they don’t mind a bit of wind and rain.

“I try to keep their interest going with games and competitions.

“This challenges them and they have to use their skills to beat each other.”
