Members of the community in Castlehill in Dumbarton joined up with representatives from the council and the police this week to go on a walkabout and discuss changes and improvements in the local area.

The event, organised by the West Dunbartonshire Council communities team, was attended by pupils from St Michael’s Primary, other representatives from the local community such as Oli Higham from the Phoenix Centre and Janice O’Connor from the Corra Foundation, WDC’s housing and greenspace teams and the West Dunbartonshire Community Policing Team.

The group set off from the Phoenix and visited locations where development work had been completed recently or is due to start soon, such as the football pitch at the Mony and the park along Hawthornhill road, both of which are due to be upgraded in the near future.

As they did so, participants walked, talked and took down notes about the changes taking place in their community and highlighted areas where they believe further work and improvement is needed.

Inspector Mo Boyle, who took part in the event, said: “I was delighted to be invited to participate in the walkabout today.

“I’m new to the team and it was great to meet local people and partners, to hear about the work which has been undertaken already such as improvements to the playpark in Cumbrae Crescent South and the removal of fly-tipping around the park.

“The P6 and P7 pupils from St.Michael’s Primary School were fantastic, they had lots of ideas which they shared and were delighted to hear about plans to upgrade multi use games areas in the coming months.

“The young people highlighted dog-fouling as a concern and we have made plans to carry out joint patrols with colleagues from the Greenspace Team to tackle this issue.”

The Communities Team are also keen to speak to anyone in the area who can suggest improvements they would like to see in their area.
