AN ALEXANDRIA woman’s relationship with her partner ended after she called him a “midget” and a “cheat” in a drunken row, a court has heard.

Joanne Ward hurled the abuse at the man before attempting to kick him on the body at the property in Braehead in Bonhill in December.

The 42-year-old Lomond Crescent resident, who had previously admitted charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and assault, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday after social workers were asked to prepare a background report.

Meghan Glancey, prosecuting, told the court: “The complainer and accused had been in a relationship for a matter of months.

“At 3am on December 16 an argument ensued. The accused was shouting phrases such as ‘cheat’ and ‘f*****g midget’.

“She swung her leg back and attempted to kick the complainer to the shin area.

“The complainer’s son contacted police, who observed the accused to be heavily intoxicated.”

Ward’s solicitor told the court his client had “underpinning issues with alcohol” and said the incident was “out of character”.

He continued: “The relationship with the complainer is over as a result of this matter. She has a very supportive family, who recognise that she has a long, hard road ahead.”

Ward was handed a community payback order which will see her supervised by social workers until August 2020.

She was also told to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work.
