Primary six pupils in the Vale had a ball last week when they attended a tag rugby festival organised by the West Dunbartonshire Active Schools team.

Nine schools sent teams to the event at Vale of Leven Academy, including Gartocharn, Balloch, Christie Park, Renton, Bonhill, Levenvale, St Mary's, Lennox and St Martin's Primaries.

After a closely-fought competition on the morning of March 5, Gartocharn secured first place.

Second place went to Balloch, who had the same number of points as Christie Park, but scored a greater number of tries.

The festival was part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games and Gartocharn and Balloch now progress to the rugby final at the end of March.

At the final they will compete against the top school teams from Clydebank and Dumbarton in a bid to be crowned the area's rugby champions 2019.
