THEFTS from vans in Dumbarton and Balloch have prompted police to renew warnings to vehicle owners.

Officers in the town said a number of incidents in the past week were under investigation but they urged residents to help by taking precautions.

Inspector Mo Boyle, from West Dunbartonshire community policing team, said: “Officers are carrying out local enquiries, however we are also appealing for the help of the public, both in terms of reporting suspicious activity and by taking some simple steps to help prevent their vehicle from being broken into.

“I would encourage everyone to be vigilant and to ensure that their vehicle is secure before leaving it unattended. Whenever possible, park in busy, well-lit areas which are covered by CCTV.

“Please make sure that valuable items are not on display and where possible are removed from the vehicle.”

Other steps should be to lock all house doors and windows and keep vehicle keys out of sight and in a safe place. Police recommend they are not left next to a door or window.

Insp Boyle added: “For additional security information please visit the ‘keep safe’ section of the Police Scotland website or contact your local police office for more information.”
