A BONHILL man caught with a significant quantity of cannabis resin at his home has been jailed for six months.

O’Hare resident Scott Ramsay was found with a kilogram of the class B drug when police searched his former home in November.

The 28-year-old was sentenced at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to being concerned in the supply of the class B drug.

Police had carried out a search of the home he shared at the time with his parents and sister in Dumbarton Road, Clydebank, on November 26.

Meghan Glancey, prosecuting, told the court the cannabis had an estimated value of £4,000.

Ramsay was originally accused of being concerned in the supply of both cannabis and cocaine, while his mother, father and sister were also charged, but prosecutors accepted guilty pleas from Ramsay alone in relation to the supply of cannabis and possession of cocaine.

He also admitted a charge of being in possession of a quantity of cocaine, which Ms Glancey said was found in a polythene bag and weighed 0.2 grams.

Ramsay’s lawyer said his client had “a fairly long-term cocaine addiction, with debts accrued in relation to the same”.

The lawyer also said Ramsay had type 1 diabetes and suffered from “substantial depressive episodes” which led him to turn firstly to alcohol and then to banned drugs.

But Sheriff Hamilton told Ramsay: “I appreciate you haven’t had your troubles to seek, but this offence involves a significant quantity of cannabis – a kilogram is a lot, and can’t be ignored. I think a custodial sentence is merited in this case.”

Ramsay was handed six months in prison on the cannabis supply charge, but was admonished for the cocaine possession.
