West Dunbartonshire Council’s Your Community initiative is hosting an Easter event to celebrate the completion of a mural in Alexandria.

The community event on Saturday, April 13 will feature an Easter bonnet parade, Easter egg hunt and egg painting.

Residents will also get the chance to see the transformation at India Street, including the mural created by artist Barry the Cat.

Councillor Diane Docherty, convener of housing and communities, said: “The way the community worked together to make improvements to the area in India Street deserves to be celebrated and what better way to do that than by hosting an event to bring the community together again. I hope they all enjoy the day.”

Members of the Central Alexandria Tenants and Residents Association (CATRA), who worked in partnership with the communities team to deliver the project, will be available to chat to residents about the opportunity to get involved in further community action.

This includes plans for a new play park on Alexander Street, a project to improve Steven Street and further murals in the area.

Councillor Caroline McAllister, vice convener of housing and communities, added: “This is the perfect opportunity for residents to get involved if they aren’t already.

"Many will have seen the improvements and maybe not realised that they can play a part in making these changes.

"I hope this encourages many more to give their ideas and work with us to see them come to life.”

The event will take place at the Your Community marquee at the India Street car park and the CATRA office on Alexandria Street between 11am and 2pm.
