Cyclists still have a chance to sign up for the ‘Glasgow Nightrider’ event next month which will raise money for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland).

Late in the evening of Saturday 22 June, the city will experience a different type of ‘night out’ as hundreds of cyclists take to the streets on a 50km or 100km distance.

The charity, which runs Robin House in Balloch, is looking to fill its last remaining places before registration closes on 3 June.

The challenge will raise vital funds for the national children’s hospice service, which supports families who have a child with a life-shortening condition.

CHAS is on a mission to reach every family in Scotland who need their support but the hard truth is that right now, they are only reaching one in every three.

Alison Doherty, who lives in Rutherglen and is a senior staff nurse at Robin House, is taking part this year with her daughter, Amy.

Alison said: “I love working for CHAS. I wake up every morning looking forward to walk in the doors of Robin House.

"I’ve been a senior staff nurse at CHAS for three years and I’ve seen a huge change in how our services have evolved over the years and how we’re reaching families from environments that we may not have been reaching before.

"I get to see first-hand just how much of a difference the care and support that we provide makes to the families.”

Alison is a seasoned runner and has several 10ks under her belt already, including the Budapest 10k which she took part in last year, but she is looking forward to taking on the cycling challenge

Rachael McDonald from CHAS, said: “It’s so inspiring to see Alison take on such a tough challenge to raise vital funds.

"Through her tough challenge, she will help families as they face their most challenging times."
