A BELLSMYRE man who carried out a sustained assault on a woman at his home address earlier this year will be sentenced next month.

Edward Morrison carried out a string of vile offences against his victim.

He repeatedly struck the woman on the head, dragged her from a bed, seized her by the throat and pinned her down at his Valeview Terrace home on May 7 this year.

The 43-year-old was due to be sentenced at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday – but after reading a background report from social workers, Sheriff Simon Pender deferred sentence further for an assessment from the PAIR programme, which works with people in West Dunbartonshire who have been convicted of domestic abuse charges. It aims to reduce harmful and controlling behaviour.

Morrison will return to court to be sentenced on June 28.
