Police have been speaking to pupils and parents and monitoring driving and parking at a number of schools in Dumbarton and the Vale.

Officers from the Safer Summer Task Force have been focussing on road safety during the morning rush hour and school drop off and pick up times this week in response to concerns raised by local people, parents and school communities.

They were out and about yesterday speaking with the public at Bonhill Primary, Dumbarton Academy, St. Patrick’s Primary, St. Peter’s Primary, Aitkenbar Primary and Bellsmyre Early Learning and Childcare Centre.

Cops also carried out speed checks in Cardross Road and Townend Road in Dumbarton.

West Dunbartonshire Community Policing Sergeant Brian Simpson said “We are committed to keeping people safe and to working with communities to address any concerns they may have.

“Inconsiderate and dangerous parking by cars on the school run is an issue which is often raised and we will continue to engage with drivers, challenge inconsiderate behaviour and issue fixed penalty notices where appropriate.”

Anyone with concerns regarding road safety at the school gates is encouraged to speak with the school or contact our local community policing teams by calling 101.
