PLANS for a new waterfront path in Dumbarton have been released by the council.

A report is due before the planning committee at West Dunbartonshire Council detailing updated proposals for a path from Dumbarton Castle, and running alongside the water to Riverside Lane.

New estimates in the report suggest the project would cost a total of £1.485 million, of which the council would be responsible for 30 percent - around £445,000.

The other 70 percent of the bill would be paid by the potential developer, who has not yet been appointed.

In the report, council officers state they hope for the project to be completed by the end of next year.

The report was drawn up as an update to previous studies, which have since become outdated due to rising construction costs and the inclusion of CCTV.

In the report, officers detail the amount due to each of the landowners for the purchase of areas along the route of the new path - Dumbarton Football Club, supermarket chain LIDL and Turnberry Homes - who will receive a share of £1.13 million.

A further £358,000 has been allocated for the construction of the path.

The meeting is due to take place on Wednesday, where councillors have been asked by officers to approve the new plans, and move forward with the project.
