West Dunbartonshire’s MP has spoken out against the discrimination facing service dog users after meeting with guide dog owners in parliament.
Martin Docherty-Hughes met with the group of 100 individuals from across the UK as a part of the ‘Access All Areas’ campaign for assistance dog users.
Many shared experiences of being turned away or refused entry into businesses because of their guide dog, despite it being against the law to do so apart from in exceptional circumstances.
The SNP politician said: “75 per cent of assistance dog owners have been illegally refused access to businesses and services including taxis, restaurants and shops.
“This is appalling and it’s clear from speaking with guide dog owners that this discrimination is robbing people of their confidence and independence.”
